Thai - Siam House (Goodramgate), Thida (Hudson St), Old Siam (Micklegate). Of the three the last is the best IMO but it's very small. Veggie options don't include fish sauce.

Indian - there's a lot of choice. Bengal Brasserie on Goodramgate, Viceroy of India on Monkgate and Saffron Desi on Micklegate are all worth a visit.

Chinese - My personal favourite is the Lee Garden on Blossom St, a little bit out of the town centre. The Royal Dragon on Barbican Road is nearest to the university campus and is good and fairly large. The Jade Garden on Tower St is apparently where the International Office takes its Chinese visitors, so it must be good! The Happy Valley on Goodramgate serves excellent food in a medieval building but the decor is a bit unexciting.

Italian - again, lots of choice. Silvano's on Cumberland St, Pizza Express on Museum St (with its amazing tiled toilets), Villa Italia on Micklegate and Delrio's on Blossom St are all central and good.

'Posh': If you aren't restricted by budget there are quite a few good options. 4 High Petergate is a traditional bistro - the food is great. The Blue Bicycle (Fossgate) is a fish restaurant (veggie options are available but not fantastic). The Tasting Room (Swinegate Court) serves a modern French menu with some good veggie options.

Others- Kapadokya, Hudson St, Turkish barbeque restaurant which is highly recommended and the veggie options apparently are quite good. Fiesta Mehicana on Tower St does good Tex/Mex food and cocktails. Plunketts on High Petergate is in a medieval building and also does good tex/mex.
